The head of the Federal Chancellor's Office in Germany, Thorsten Frei, stated that the West needs to discuss the issue of confiscating Russian assets again, considering Russia's refusal of peace. He expressed his opinion in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
Frei noted that 'the sense of justice suggests' that the confiscation of frozen Russian assets in the West is necessary, 'given the enormous damage and human suffering that Russia inflicts on Ukraine.'
Frei believes that Russian money should now be used for necessary defense measures, as Ukraine is experiencing the heaviest shelling since the beginning of the war. At the same Time, he noted that such a decision could have a negative impact on foreign investments in the EU or Germany.
According to Frei, Russian state funds need to be examined more closely, as it is important not to allow Russia to 'play with all of us.'
