Ukrainians with pro-Western views in occupied Crimea are becoming victims of violent disappearances. This statement was made by Oleksiy Tilnenko from 'CrimeSOS'. According to him, most individuals who were found dead after going missing openly supported Ukraine and were ready to resist Russian occupation.
'Regarding some people who were forcibly disappeared, the occupiers initiated criminal cases based on fabricated charges, and thus these individuals became political prisoners. However, not everyone was fortunate enough to reach court — sometimes their lives were cut short without any investigation. This can be considered extrajudicial execution,' emphasized Tilnenko.
Motives and New Cases of Disappearances in Occupied Crimea
During the Russian invasion of Crimea, 44 cases of violent disappearances aimed at suppressing any resistance were recorded. After 2022, new motives began to emerge: economic and informational. In other words, the abduction of entrepreneurs for ransom and public opinion leaders for propaganda became frequent practices among the occupiers, including innocent children.
Crimea continues to be a place where Ukrainians with pro-Western views face violent measures from the occupiers, leading to catastrophic consequences. The main motives for disappearances are supplemented by new forms of repression, indicating an escalation of the situation in the region and a deterioration of human rights.Read also
