Europe and Asia call for cooperation to protect undersea cables amid rising threats.


Defense ministries from Europe and Southeast Asia are calling for cooperation to protect undersea cables that are critical for transmitting global data. The increase in damage in European waters raises concerns about the security of this vital infrastructure.
'We need to work together to protect the entire network,' emphasized Singapore's Minister of Defense Ng Eng Hen at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue security forum. 'We must care for both ends of the cable to ensure its integrity and security.'
During the summit in Singapore, European officials want to exchange experiences with their Asian counterparts regarding responses to damage to undersea cables. Europe is increasing patrols in key areas to ensure the security of underwater infrastructure, considering the importance of protecting digital cable infrastructure amidst geopolitical and technological challenges of the modern era.
