Ukraine is making changes to the rules for extending deferrals for disabilities during martial law starting in May 2024. Now, the deferral is granted for the duration of mobilization, which lasts no more than 90 days. Men aged 18 to 60 are required to renew their deferral every three months at territorial recruitment centers.
Lawyer Andriy Topchiy explained that for persons with disabilities, especially when confirmation is required under the new rules, the law provides for the automatic transfer of data from state registers to territorial recruitment centers. Such persons do not need to personally submit documents.Also, men aged 25 to 60 with second or third group disabilities will be required to undergo a functional assessment within the established Time frames. Persons who had their disability established before the law was enacted and who have not undergone a repeat examination by medical commissions during martial law can automatically extend their deferral through Reserve Plus or contact the Pension Fund administration.
Conducting repeated examinations of persons with disabilities
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reports that all who have limitations in daily functioning and disability status will undergo assessment by an expert team of doctors. Persons whose disability is established on a permanent basis may undergo assessment at their request.Persons who cannot undergo a repeat examination for objective reasons are provided for exceptions in legislation. This may include individuals in combat zones or temporarily occupied territories, or those with serious disruptions in bodily functions. For servicemen, the status of disability remains for 60 days after the end of service.Ukraine is making changes to the rules for extending deferrals for disabilities during martial law.
