'There is no market': Popenko criticized the plans for a sharp increase in gas and electricity tariffs.

Oleg Popenko, an expert in the communal sphere, expressed his criticism regarding the transition to market tariffs for energy resources for the population in Ukraine. He emphasized that there is no real market in the country, and the International Monetary Fund's press release about raising utility tariffs raised his doubts.
Popenko particularly noted the supermonopoly of Naftogaz of Ukraine in the gas sector and control over electricity by Energoatom and regional energy companies. He pointed out that such conditions do not meet international standards and prevent the formation of a real market in the country's energy sector.
Need to eliminate monopolies
In his criticism, Popenko indicated the need to consider market practices of other countries that have a more liberalized pricing system. According to him, as long as monopolies are not eliminated and costs are not optimized, it is unreasonable to talk about the availability of a market in Ukrainian energy.
Ukraine is gradually transitioning to market tariffs for energy resources for the population, but experts express criticism concerning this process. Oleg Popenko remarked that monopolies in the energy sector hinder the formation of a true market. He called for the elimination of monopoly structures and cost optimization to improve the situation in the country's energy sector.
