Trump Wins: Congress Approves Budget Bill by Narrow Margin.
The Bill Passed in the U.S. House of Representatives
On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on President Trump's bill, resulting in 218-214, reports Axios.
Only two Republicans - Thomas Massie and Brian Fitzpatrick - joined all Democrats in voting against it. This allowed Trump to sign the document by the deadline of July 4.
The bill maintains the tax cuts introduced by Trump in 2017, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, and makes changes to the Medicaid system related to employment conditions. It also proposes an increase of the federal debt ceiling by $5 trillion, allocates $175 billion for border security, and $150 billion for defense. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would lead to an increase in national debt by $3.3 trillion over 10 years and would result in approximately 12 million Americans losing their health insurance due to changes in Medicaid.
As a result of the voting, Trump's bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, paving the way for further consideration and possible signing by the president by the scheduled deadline of July 4.
