Cigarettes in Ukraine will rise sharply: Zelensky approved new excise taxes on tobacco.

The law on increasing excise duty on tobacco products has been signed
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law to increase the excise duty on tobacco products, reports 'Hvylya'.
The law, which was passed by the Verkhovna Rada in December 2024, is part of the European integration initiatives. One of the main goals of the law is to gradually increase specific excise rates on cigarettes by 2028 to reach the minimum level set by EU Council Directive 2011/64/EU.
The law also provides for the transition to measuring the excise tax rates in euros, which will help avoid the impact of inflation on rate increases, as well as clarify certain provisions for the administration of excise duties on tobacco products.
People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that after the president's signature, the price of cigarettes will rise by more than 40 hryvnias.
Information about the impact of excise taxes on prices for tobacco products had already been reported - starting from April 1 of this year.
