Half of the world's languages may disappear by the end of the century - UNESCO.

According to UNESCO, the world loses nine languages every year. The rate of disappearance has increased from one language every three months ten years ago to one language every 40 days in 2019. Many of these languages are rarely used or not used in official contexts, which threatens their extinction.
«Every day it pains me to see a language disappear, as it is not just about the language, but also about the people. It pertains to history and culture. When a language dies, everything associated with it fades away»
In communities that feel their traditions are being suppressed by dominant languages, activists are trying to preserve their heritage. They are using online tools, such as videos, to maintain their language and culture.
«Documenting folk songs was my way to understand my culture and contribute to it»
Technologies are also developing worldwide to document languages using artificial intelligence. However, some individuals have ethical concerns regarding the use of these technologies.
